Our Story
Officina Musicale SaráBanda was founded in 2003 as a social inclusion project for young people in difficult circumstances, sponsored by Rome’s V Municipality. The project was coordinated by Sebastiano Spinella, an artist, musician, and social art educator, and Renato Bigotto, an elderly artisan specialized in accordion repair and tuning, and a technician with expertise in various musical instruments.
After Renato’s passing in 2004 and the withdrawal of institutional support, the project continued thanks to Sebastiano’s voluntary efforts. Over the years, he accumulated knowledge through experiences, industry connections, specialized courses, and visits to the top experts in Castelfidardo, Italy’s hub for bellows instruments.
The workshop now welcomes new apprentices annually, nurturing future artisans, and has become a reference point for both amateur and professional accordionists, thanks to collaborations with educational and professional communities. Located next to Rampa Prenestina, Officina Musicale SaráBanda is a gathering place for musicians, students, and professionals alike.
The workshop’s motto has always been: MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE.
We provide fully restored and tuned musical instruments at reasonable prices, catering to the needs of musicians, especially those from schools and their families. We buy, trade, and gladly accept donations of old or damaged instruments—if you’re looking to get rid of them, you can contribute to a good cause.
A portion of the workshop’s revenue goes toward funding local pedagogical and social inclusion activities aimed at disadvantaged Romani and non-Romani children, through the association Rampa Prenestina. These activities include art education workshops for children, music and theater workshops, musical instrument repair, and various crafts for adolescents and young adults.
The workshop is an open space for the exchange of knowledge. If you want to repair your instrument yourself, you can use a workbench, our tools, and benefit from Sebastiano’s supervision. We also offer music lessons and initiation into various instruments, both individually and in groups, for all ages: accordion, guitar, clarinet, trumpet, and mandolin.
If you have a musical dream, don’t hesitate—you might just realize it here!
